not a log for work per se but i do have a new video game to show! made with the usual sukeban crew, this is probably the most hostile title we’ve made for a game jam. I think it’s quite beefy for a title made in 3 days, but also has no intentions of being fun. Very unapologetic in its design but enough of the self jerking.

I’m sensing a lot will change but that’s the nature of a first draft.Project X: did some concept art and not much else aside from exploring different ways to transmit a retro feel with some modern sensibilities, fun stuff.Pretty light day, new programmer moved places so he’s busy until Friday, tho he’s still polishing the enemy tools while he’s offline anyway. I’ll check it whenever he’s back online.

In the meantime we now have a script to test things out and loose ends have been ironed out. The parser need to be updated to account for that, but we’re getting there.

I deleted a good scriptable because I thought it got corrupted. Not the end of the world but an annoyance still.

Been raining all day, no walks today.

Yesterday I found out Soreyuke Marin-chan’s OVAs were not only directed by Masami Obari but animated by Pink Pineapple too. I can’t stop thinking about that since Marin-chan is a bit of a classic for me and that genealogy explains so much. Pink Pineapple is my favorite hentai production house too.

I had vague memories of reading something (was it in TV Tropes?) about Marin-chan’s mangaka getting arrested for living his fantasies with an assistant in a very… not-okay way. I thought I was imagining things but it’s apparently enough of a thing that if you search the alleged headline in Japanese you get directed to…. a ton of dead links and one heated note on his Wikipedia article.

I deleted PlayMaker from the project. I’m happy I got such a cool tool on discount but it’s also a cool tool I’m not using anyways.

Also it turns out the scriptable that holds the sprites crashed because, within a for loop, I was using an if without an else and adding an empty else fixed it.

Interestingly I couldn’t make it into a switch since switches require a constant value for each case (so providing it with “thing” is fine, but providing it thing where thing is the name of a variable, is not).

Actually, turns out it’s because the scriptable didn’t have its script attached to it for some reason.

Remember kids, the biggest source of issues in computer things lies between the keyboard and the chair.

Sleep wouldn’t come and I had an appointment at like 12 so I was ready to make a run for it before they asked me to delay till 2PM which gave me the chance to have proper lunch. Ended up watching subbed Otogibara Era videos while at it. The most surefire way to my heart is a girl with absolutely zero filter and a dirty mind apparently.

Gym today was leg day, nothing of note today there aside from the gym being quieter these days.

As for work, today I added more warnings to the code. They’re less of an eyesore than regular prints everywhere. I also updated the eye section of the sprites with new code.

Unity found it funny to throw a random error today that made the scriptable lose everything I had assigned to it even though it was working yesterday. In theory the eye section of the sprite is gone done refactored, but it ain’t worth shit if you don’t have something working.

Problem for tomorrow. Again, 4 hours of sleep.

I postponed tomorrow’s Japanese lesson for next week, I should have enough time to fix this.

Japan paperwork requires you to fill things with your own calligraphy which is a pain in the butt since you can’t just tell someone else to fill it in for you. Have to go tomorrow to pay taxes and now I’m really understanding why Nomikai is a tradition. You can write a weekly booze party off as work expenses, what a country.

I’ve been refactoring how sprites work. I was stuck in making sure they recognized what expressions they could work with and where to pull them from. One afternoon learning about serializations and now we have a neat and tidy scriptable housing everything the sprite has.

Gonna be a busy week, gotta sneak in as much work as I can.

  • adjusted hitboxes and ui, enemies are now easier to select
  • we need to make it so the boss only summons one group of enemies
  • adjust the shadows so the don’t change size when debris is moving
  • finished a n1rvanna poster and a new logo proposal, still needs tweaking
  • pestered the 3d modelers some more, gotta send some concepts today.
  • speaking of said concepts, they need some adjustment before that
  • spoke with musicians about new songs based on the artwork I did, it’s turning out pretty great so far.

things I wanna do after I write this

  • vfx studies
  • implement gamepad controls to project D since i don’t trust point and click anymore, or not enough really
  • adjust the concept art to be sent today
